This optical illusion was created by Anthony Norcia of the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute and was a finalist in the top 10 category, 2006, for the contest ‘Best Visual Illusion Of The Year’. Many people view the picture as a series of ‘coffers’ (a decorative sunken panel). It is called The Coffer Illusion and is a variation on the ‘Op Art Illusion’ by Gianni Sarcone.
