Awesome how Zappa matches the walls.
    Love the pictures. 🙂

  • Rusty Shackelford

I especially liked how Frank dressed to match the decor……

  • Get Fuzzy

Clapton sure looks like he’s having a good time.

  • I wonder if the Zappas painted their walls to match his outfit that day 😉

  • Helen Gircko

Even the rock must have its nest. Thanks for the wonderful pictures.

  • laura valentina

I say that’s Far out groovy. A lot of items such as clothing is coming back flares or bells jeans etc. wonderful blog Pee-wee. Love it!

  • Looking at some of these homes, suddenly Tommy doesn’t seem so surreal.

  • mopinla

No way is that really Frank Zappa’s folks’ house! That is exceedingly cool.

  • Hymewyce

Pee wee you are awesome. …… (secret word of the day!) Awesome ahhhhhhhh…..and Zappa’s parents house is the best…..

  • El_Runko

Richie Havens was older than his dad?

  • Charles Ayala

People complain about nowadays style. Man, the 70’s were such a hideously decorated time. Fashion, decor, hair, home furnishing *vomit – Not to mention that Hollywood seemed to forget how to make quality in that decade (of course there are rare gems)

  • Lochen Wilder

So classic, with the exception of Elton John…. It’s hilarious to see all these guys with the “tough rock and roller” face as their parents stand nearby beaming the biggest, goofiest, proudest grins they can.

  • Tony Phillips

    Haha. That is too cool!

  • Jim of VividPeace

    Eric looks thrilled!

    I don’t miss 70s clothes

  • MNLoonaTick

Clapton’s mom looks like a guy in drag.

  • Sense_n_Sensibility

Well, Clapton’s story is kind of a complicated sad one … he was raised by his grandmother because the girl he thought was his older sister gave birth to him illegitimately …. he didn’t learn the truth until he was about 9 years old. http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2011/06/until-he-was-nine-eric-clapton-thought-his-mother-was-his-sister/

  • Joanie Hepsworth

  • Terri Lynn Hancock

  • Hippie Hair

Now I know where Zappa got his zap !

  • epweissengruber

I know that Frank painted. I wonder if that is one of his in the back.

  • Danny Mathey

    Black…..Don’t crack…….

  • Natalie Dennis

This is so cool! I have seen the Zappa picture before but the others I haven’t. I love David Crosby! And Elton Johns Face lol !! R.I.P. Richie Havens Freedom Freedom !!!

  • Fumetti666

Clapton’s “mother” in that photo is actually his maternal grandmother. His grandmother raised Clapton as his son.

  • Powkat

Elton got his style from Mum.

  • Fumetti666

They are way better than baggy pants, hoodies and other “current” gear favored by youth.

  • Fumetti666

Crosby’s father was actually a respected cinematographer who won an Oscar for a movie. He came from money.

  • Fumetti666

The man with Elton John and his mother is his stepfather.

  • jaime

love that the havens have a pic of mlk and jfk on their table… and a plastic cover on their sofa. lol

  • nhlangel75

LOL love how everyone time warped into the 70s on this.

  • IanM

You’re probably right. The painting in the background was owned by Zappa and used for cover of Alice Cooper’s first album which Zappa produced in 1969.

  • tarcomed

I LOVE the hair, man! 🙂 that zappa’s folks’ place is to die for!

  • Claire Baker

Whatever….everyone knows that’s Frank’s house, his folks are just sitting in it. And his aura is purple….purple….Laurel Canyon….hey, Pee Wee, did you know him at all? Nice guy!

  • LollyBee

    And RFK.

  • Wanda Hurley

who think’s todays Clothes would have been a Hit At Woodstock ??.

  • mopinla

I read elsewhere that it was a photo of his parents in his house, but if that is his parents’ house, it explains a lot about FZ!

  • Geoff Jacobs

    No one…

  • Geoff Jacobs

I wondered what he did for a living, he look well refined and dignified.

  • Geoff Jacobs

That plastic covering was kind of a fad back in the 70’s with the black families. I worked as a cop in a predominately black area in Miami back then. Every black home that I went into had really nice, extravagant, fancy furniture with plastic covers on them. Actually a very smart thing! That furniture wasn’t cheap and it was beautiful.

  • Robert Abooey

I remember when these pictures came out in Life (I believe) Magazine. They were cool pictures. I especially liked the one of Frank Zappa and his parents

  • Janet Sellers

maybe a good pretend of parents and rock stars…. I find Zappa picture way to photoshopped, and each pic has a photo shop smell..

  • jennette

Poor Mr and Mrs Zappa. And they look like they were such nice people too.

  • spanry

And who’s that man holding his dad’s waist?

  • 1bestdog

This is funny. All the Rock young uns look appropriately annoyed with their folks.

  • Diana

Eric Clapton is sad because his Grandmother made him polish all of that silver.

  • Skip Mcgowen

    Thank you pee wee

  • Brandy Hunter

I love the furniture, they have a store here called Eclectic Etc. and they have great 70’s furniture, clothes, toys and jewelry. Always a great find in there.

  • Splarnacus

  • Deborah Lynn

Except for the bentwood rocker … seems so out of place.

  • Deborah Lynn

Love the photo of MLK Jr, Bobby & JFK at the
    Haven’s house

  • Amy

Bentwood rockers were very sought after in the 1970s.

  • Amy

Not just black folk! My cousin was very proud of her new furniture, which she had covered with plastic by a local car upholsterer.

  • Amy

    Far out, man.

  • zanely

Frank Zappa rarely cracked a smile. Didn’t learn that from his mom and dad. lol That’s a lot of purple in that living room, though. Must of been “inspired” I’d say.

  • Charles Daigle

Eric: Where are the Black Curtains?

  • Geoff Jacobs

  • miss_msry

    I had one.

  • miss_msry

    So true.

  • miss_msry

Happened in a lot of families, famous and not famous.

  • miss_msry

Not just black families, just not my family.
